I've always had the kind of personality that was "all or nothing". What do I mean by that? Well, it's the one that says things like, "I'll ALWAYS do this when I have kids" or "I would NEVER do that". I make bold statements that, more often than not, leave me inserting my size 9 foot in my mouth. Since many of you told me how much you liked my "Please tell me" post, I thought I would follow it up with one full of things I said I would NEVER or ALWAYS do (but time proved otherwise).

-Before I had kids I swore that I would never have a natural childbirth. Why bring that kind of pain on your body when you have the option of pain meds? Well, one spinal headache and natural childbirth class later, and I hope that I will never have a medicated birth again.
-Before kids I also vowed that I would never breastfeed. I told my mom that it was disgusting and my kids would get two days- while we were in the hospital- and that was it. HA! My how carrying that growing life inside your body changes you and your outlook! William nursed 14 months and Madelyn is still going strong at nearly 13 months.
- I also said I would never drive a mini van. I mean, how much more "soccer mom" can you get? Now, while we don't have that mini van yet, it is in our plans to trade my Jetta in for an Odyssey within the next few years....and I CANNOT WAIT! My life will become exponentially easier with the click of a button and that day cannot come soon enough!
- Up until last week I swore that I'd never own, let alone wear, a velour sweat-suit. Well, alert the media because I not only have one in my closet, but I plan on never taking it off! You know I love a good deal, and when I was at Old Navy over the weekend, I found one for less than $10. I told myself that I'd try it on, but I'd probably look like a lumpy Jim Hensen character. Not only did it look pretty good, but it was also more comfortable than I'd ever imagine. Sean still jokes on me when I wear it, but I don't care because I know I'm at least matching and practically wearing a snuggie around.
- I also found myself giving in to another "I would never" for the sake of my son's plea. While on the way to a party Saturday evening, I was putting William's shoes on and noticed they were extremely snug fitting. Last week they fit just fine, but now I could barely get them on! I bought these sneakers back in the fall, and dropped $30 for them because I thought they were cool...I mean, they are converses. While cramming his foot in, I proceeded to tell him that on Friday (hellllllo, payday!) we'd have to go pick out a new pair. He immediately lit up and announced, "I get shoes with lights in them!" Ugh. I never liked how boys light up shoes look. I always thought (and still do, quite frankly) that they didn't match anything. Still, I found myself telling him that we'd get light up ones because I just couldn't squander his excitement (he kept telling me all the kids in his class that had them...I mean, how do a bunch of 2 and 3 year olds know what's cool?!). Anyway, I keep telling myself that if they're shoes he likes, then maybe he'll put them on solo and I would have one less battle to fight, right? Right.
- I never wanted my kid to like Thomas the Tank because I think he has a bad attitude. Well, William loves him and I've found that a little huffing and puffing by a train is the least of my concerns!
- I will always shower before leaving the house and going into public. Ha! Do I even need to explain this one?!
- I always thought I'd weigh no more than 130 pounds and be able to wear whatever kind of bathing suit I wanted. OMG...that's proven to be a joke! Am I old enough to wear a skirt suit yet (even though that's another thing I said I'd never wear).
- I always said that I would never be a stay at home mom. Now, I have a new appreciation for this 24/7 occupation and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
I'm sure there are plenty of other things I said I'll never or always do, and maybe one day I'll learn that you never know what will happen so you always have to be open to change!
