Because of His crown, we can have ours.

“Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.”

Gettin' crafty with it!

For William's first Valentine's Day, I ordered him a chair backer from Pottery Barn. Every year since, it's been filled with treats to show him how much we love him on this special day. Here's what his chair backer looks like:

Last year Madelyn was just a month old for Valentine's Day, but I still wanted her to have a chair backer as well. Unfortunately Pottery Barn sold out of them and so I put off ordering one until this year. Well, I visited their website last week just to find out they were sold out again. I was so bummed that they were sold out again, but then I thought of Etsy. I've had so much success ordering things for my kids off this awesome site, but to my dismay there were only one or two stores that sold the item I was looking for (and they were at least $20). What's a frugalista mama to do?!

MAKE YOUR OWN!!!
Now, I'm not the craftiest person, but I thought this was a doable challenge with the help of my local craft store. I got enough supplies to make several chair backers and I only paid about $12. Here's how I did it:
I bought felt pieces, rick rack, fabric glue, glitter glue, felt stickers, ribbon, and thick thread. I then sewed the felt with a rustic "x" stitch.

Once the actual chair backer was formed, I got decorating! With the help of felt stickers, the job was really easy!

I then added my girl's name, rick rack, and some ribbon.

...And here's the finished product:

My two biggest compliments were from my boys! Sean said that I should sell them and William told me his wasn't pretty like Mads'. Haha! I just love them for their support!
Hope this inspires you to make something if you can't find it in stores, or at potterybarn.com, or on Etsy, etc., etc...

  2. Girl, they're so easy!! You could totally do it- it took me like 15 minutes! I have only my girly materials, but I know Michaels had boy felt stickers too.
